How much notice do you require before my service can be cancelled?

We should be able to stop your service in one business day. If this isn't possible, we'll contact you by using the contact information you provided.


How do I know if my meter reading has been estimated?

If a meter reading is estimated, it will be indicated beside the associated meter reading numbers on your bill.


What has been done to protect my account information?

Will my FortisBC customer account still exist even though I cancelled my service?

Yes, it will still exist on our records, and you can add services to your account in the future.


Is there a fee for cancelling a service?

There is no fee associated with cancelling a service; however, you'll need to pay all outstanding charges for the service up to the cancellation date.


I'm enrolled in Customer Choice. Do I need to contact my gas marketer if I'm closing my FortisBC account?

Residential customers

Yes, once you've signed a Consumer Agreement with a gas marketer, you have an obligation to ensure your agreement moves with you to your new residence, as long as it remains in an area served by Customer Choice.

Business customers

Once you close your account with us, your Consumer Agreement is cancelled. You will need to contact your preferred gas marketer if you would like to re-enrol in Customer Choice.

Note: Customer Choice is not available to residents of Revelstoke or Fort Nelson.
