RNG is a low-carbon2 gas that puts waste to work. All FortisBC gas customers have a percentage of their gas designated as RNG, known as designated RNG blend.
You can choose to designate five, 10, 25, 50 or 100 per cent of your gas use as RNG. By subscribing to the voluntary RNG program, you'll:
- help reduce overall greenhouse gas emissions
- help B.C. reach its climate action goals

Provincial sales tax (PST)
Purchasers of energy products have an obligation to advise suppliers where they may be subject to seven per cent PST. At present, residents of British Columbia are charged only five per cent GST on energy being used for personal use or consumption at a residence by the owner, long term tenant or other occupant of the residence. Residential use does not include business, commercial or industrial use. More information on PST and its applicability to energy products can be found at pstinbc.ca.
In order to confirm whether PST will apply to your service, please answer the following questions:
Will a business operate at this location or use the property for business or industrial use?
Example: Any home based business or home office (self-employed), such as a daycare, hair salon, mechanic services, bookkeeping services or farm. A property used to store scrap metal for resale, provide welding services on the property, or maintain vehicles used for business. Also included are spec homes, even if empty and unsold.
Will you provide short term rental at this location?
Example: Property that is rented out on a nightly or weekly basis, any term under one month. This could be a single family home, condominium or apartment such as a vacation property or a rental for the purpose of generating additional income.
